Something very strange is going on in Bowling Green, Kentucky. A masked terrorist attacks a local politician and a news reporter at a minor league baseball game. A Gay Pride parade is bombed. A veteran's home is invaded and taken over by new ownership, and every resident that is not Caucasian has suddenly...disappeared. Krump Enterprises, run by Ronald Krump and his assistant, Race Scanlon, have begun a systematic takeover of the city, spreading rumors about immigrant violence, tearing down horse farms to build a country club, blackmailing the mayor, and much, much worse. It's up to Police Chief Hannity, Dr. Abner Brody, a reporter named Lauren Kelly, a stoner named Walt, and Frederick Douglass, time traveler, to track down the truth, and stop Krump before the city falls under his sway, and even darker days prevail. Remember Bowling Green is a cautionary tale, first in the Crossroad Press series of Alternative History novels. Though we are not directly affiliated with the ACLU, 80 percent (our normal author share) of proceeds from this book will go to the ACLU to help fight for our rights and freedoms. A newly married Methodist minister, Larry Zellers, was serving as a missionary and teacher in a small South Korean town near the 38th parallel when he was captured by the North Koreans on June 25, 1950. Until his release in 1953, Zellers endured brutal conditions and inhumane treatment. Through his story, Zellers shows that, despite the opinion that POWs live only for themselves, many in the camps worked to help others and conducted themselves with honor. "This harrowing but inspiring account is especially absorbing." Publishers Weekly "A chilling account of the suffering he and a group of fellow civilians endured during three years as prisoners of Communist North Korea." Retired Officer Magazine "Provides a fascinating view into the minds of both captors and prisoners." Bowling Green Daily News 1. Language: English. Narrator: J Austin Moran II. In America, they say any kid might someday be elected President. Well, 13-year-old Justin Moon did get elected President. The only problem is that now he has to actually serve in the nation's highest office. Being the leader of the most powerful country in the world is not as much fun as it sounds. Sure, the White House is filled with great stuff like its own movie theater, bowling alley, and swimming pool - but no one mentioned all the snoopy news reporters, the overly cautious Secret Service agents, or the annoying system of checks and balances that keeps the President from doing anything he wants. In this delightful sequel to The Kid Who Ran for President, award-winning author Dan Gutman once again shows how much fun it can be to learn about history and politics. Scott Shina's narration tops all opinion polls for fun. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Shina. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/reco/001719/bk_reco_001719_sample.mp3. We've all known someone on the Rachel Dolezal spectrum who uses downward mobility as ascension or escape. You'd rather not #AskRachel what it means to her to pass as black, but you can't turn away. Susie has many thoughts on this headline-grabbing story of a white girl who grew up with white fundamentalist missionary parents and then left them behind to live as a black activist. Then, it's "What's New on Audible". Susie has a great new audiobook to recommend for our listening pleasure: Straight: The Surprisingly Short History of Heterosexuality by Hanne Blank, narrated by Fran Tunno. Susie loves this author and finds her books to be so smart and sexy. Hanne's writing makes us question our outmoded beliefs about sex. Straight knocks down the arguments for allowing only traditional marriage like bowling pins. Have a question or news story for Susie? High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Nathaniel "Nate" Thurmond (born July 25, 1941, in Akron, Ohio) is a retired American basketball player, feared and praised by legends including Bob Pettit, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Wilt Chamberlain. His nickname during his playing years was "Nate the Great". He played in high school with another future NBA star, Gus Johnson, at Akron Central. Their powerful team went undefeated before losing to Middletown, led by Jerry Lucas, in the Ohio state high school playoffs. Passing on a scholarship offer to Ohio State, to avoid becoming Lucas's backup there, the 6'11" Thurmond chose Bowling Green. He was named a first-team All-American by The Sporting News in 1963, and was drafted by the San Francisco Warriors later that year.

DECODING A PROSOCIAL MESSAGE This research aimed to identify, analyze, and evaluate prosocial messages contained in News Six, a local children s TV series produced by WBGU-PBS, Bowling Green, Ohio in 1972-2002. The analysis focused on the program content in terms of the socializing function it served for the intended audience of sixth grade students. The social cognitive theory of mass communication provided a framework for the explication of how televised messages are acknowledged by the audience. Content analysis methodology was supplemented with unstructured participant observation. The study involved locating and creating a DVD archive of News Six master tapes. Results demonstrated that News Six was rich with community, school, and family-oriented prosocial messages. Altruistic behaviors such as helping, sharing, caring, and cooperation composed the most prevalent theme. Overall, the study provides empirical data, insights, and recommendations that may stimulate further research of existing prosocial television programming for early adolescents and assist in the development of new programs.
