Warning: If modern church culture makes perfect sense to you, and you always fit in seamlessly, don´t listen to this. As for the rest of us... While American church culture (and American culture at large) seems largely designed for the extroverted, it´s estimated that half of the American population is introverted, and they´re often left wondering how, even if, they fit in the kingdom of God. As one of them, popular radio host Brant Hansen brings news. It´s wonderful, refreshing, and never-been-said-this-way-before good news. In his unique style, Hansen looks to answer questions that millions of people carry with them each day: If I don´t relate to God as emotionally as others do, is something wrong with me? How does one approach God, and approach faith, when devoid of the ´´good feelings´´ that seem to drive so much of evangelical church culture? How does God interact with those who seem spiritually numb? Is the absence of faith-based emotion a sign that God has moved on or was never there? What if we aren´t good at talking to people about our faith or good at talking to people at all? What if I´m told I´m too analytical, that I ´´think too much´´? Where does a person who suffers from depression fit in the kingdom? Is depression a sure sign of a lack of faith? This book is good news for people who are desperately looking for it. (And for their loved ones!) It´s also for those who want to believe in Jesus but inwardly fear that they don´t belong, worry that don´t have the requisite emotion-based relationship with God, and are starving for good news. Blessed Are the Misfits is going to generate discussion and lots of it. It´s simultaneously highly provocative and humbly personal. It´s also leavened with a distinct, dry, self-effacing humor that is a hallmark of Hansen´s on-air, writing, and pub 1. Language: English. Narrator: Brant Hansen. Good News About Satan:A Gospel Look at Spiritual Warfare Bob Bevington
A vigorous, darkly comic, and at times magical portrait of the contemporary American family, The Shipping News shows why E. Annie Proulx is recognized as one of the most gifted and original writers in America today. When Quoyle, a 36-year-old, third rate newspaperman, learns that his two-timing wife has abandoned him and their two daughters, he returns to his ancestral home on the Newfoundland coast, where amongst locals and three generations of his family, he begins to rebuild his life. Newfoundland is a dreary rock in the north Atlantic beset by lousy weather. Proulx recreates this barren location in her vivid, distinctive prose and populates it with a cast of amusing, richly human characters. The transformation each of the characters undergoes following the move is profound. And Proulx creates a simple and compelling tale of Quoyle´s psychological and spiritual growth as he confronts his private demons. Along the way, we catch a glimpse of the maritime beauty of what is probably a fading existence. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Robert Joy. Neben amerikanischen Klassikern (Amazing grace, Go down Moses, Kumbaya, Deep river, Down by the riverside, Good news, O when the saints, Nobody knows, Joshua fit the battle of Jericho u. v. a.) finden sich in der Sammlung einige Entdeckungen aus den Anfängen der Gattung.
With the popularity of the first book, The Good News About Being Catholic, I was destined to produce a second book. The first book was inspired by conversations I had during a two-week trip to a southern university in the US. The lack of accurate information and the bigotry I encountered by the well-meaning Christians and others along the way was shocking to me. Be that as it may, I decided to write this short piece on the psychological healing aspects of the Sacrament of Confession, now called Reconciliation. In my life and my work as a professional Counselor I cannot think of a single more powerful agent for healing than this Sacrament. I have known many people who have been saved from anxiety, depression, and suicide through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. For others it has brought joy and higher quality of life, which is often hard to describe unless you have experienced it. In this little book I will endeavor to share with you what it is like to be touched by the healing presence of Christ. Disclaimer of Liability Nothing in this book is to be used as a substitute for competent spiritual and psychological counseling. If you have issues, go get help. This is just a frank discussion. Note: all identifying characteristics of the persons have been sanitized from this presentation. The stories are true but the privacy of the individual must be preserved. Full Disclosure: I am a devout Roman Catholic and an avid participant in sacraments. Although I have made every effort to faithfully represent the faith system; you should really talk to a priest if you have concerns or questions. I have had a minimal amount of formal training. 1. Drawing on everyday experiences from preparing meals to harvesting hay, Cathy Hird delves into the patterns of our spiritual journey. In this collection of her columns, originally written for an online news magazine, Hird explores things we see every day to uncover the interconnectedness of life and how we find meaning and purpose in our days.As a farmer, she is embedded in creation. As a minister, she cares for the vulnerable. And all her work is driven by a desire for balance in life and wholeness for the world we live in. These reflections begin with her daily journey and reach for a sense of the divine. They invite the listener to step into the world she sees and, at the same time, re-imagine their own spiritual journey. 1. Language: English. Narrator: KD Marie.
