Revision with unchanged content. With the advent of an increasing number of multicast services such as audio/video streaming and news broadcast, accounting for the resources consumed by subscribers becomes essential. However, multicast environ ments are inherently more susceptible to attacks. Although e-commerce protocols such as SSL, TLS, and SET protocols offer some forms of security, they cannot be directly applied to secure e-commerce sessions in the multi cast environment. As secured multicast services gain popularity in the Internet, at one point there would be a significant response from the service providers to support e-commerce through multicast networks. Therefore, this book presents a Multicast Security Protection Profile (MSPP) that identifies and secures the operating environment of multicast sessions. An architectural framework called SETMS has been designed to secure e-commerce trans actions for multicast services. It provides authentication of host through HIP, authorization of subscriber and his e-payments through a variant of the 2KP, accounting for the subscriber s resource consumption, and supports non-repudiation through PKI. SETMS has been evaluated using the CC based MSPP specs and validated using the AVISPA. The book is addressed to professionals and researchers involved in securing computer networks, multicast and e-commerce environments, and the e-commerce protocol designers.

This project introduces the advantages of working in three dimensions at the early phases of an urban design process. These phases have commonly been neglected from the use of 3D analytical and design tools, which in many cases result in inadequate urban interventions. The Toolbox is therefore a quick and easy digital tool that allows urban designers to sketch their ideas in three dimensions since the beginning of a design process. Moreover, the Toolbox allows the designer to express his or her ideas in a way that is easily understood by almost anyone, regardless of their skills in reading architectural plans and drawings, allowing the possibility for more people to become active in an urban design discussion. This is possible as the Toolbox virtually imitates the way humans perceive space through embodiment. The project involved a 3- week study trip to Sisimuit in Greenland, where we worked together with the Municipal planning division. During our stay, the project arose attention in the press, which resulted in the exposure of the project on national news television Quanorooq on the 10th of April, 2008.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Baffin Island in the Canadian territory of Nunavut is the largest member of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. It is the largest island in Canada and the fifth largest island in the world, with an area of 507,451 km2 (195,928 sq mi) and has a population of 11,000 (2006). Named after English explorer William Baffin, it is likely that the island was known to Pre-Columbian Norse of Greenland and Iceland and may be the location of Helluland spoken of in the Icelandic sagas (the Saga of Erik the Red (Eiríks saga rauða) and the Gr nlendinga saga). In September 2008, Nunatsiaq News reported archaeological remains of yarn, rats, tally sticks, a carved wooden Dorset culture face mask depicting Caucasian features, and possible architectural remains, which place European traders and possibly settlers on Baffin Island not later than AD 1000. What the source of this Old World contact may have been is unclear, the report states: "Dating of some yarn and other artifacts, presumed to be left by Vikings on Baffin Island, have produced an age that predates the Vikings by several hundred years.

Intelligent Design using Solar-Climatic Vision

Thanks to the availability of energy, materials and technologies, the level of comfort in buildings is increasing around the world. However, today we are also facing buildings and cities that are responsible for a high percentage of global energy consumption. Pollution, heat island effect, climate change and global warming are just a few of the challenges that the human race, as well as other living matter on earth, will have to deal with in future. Moreover, as time goes by, we may not necessarily live in healthier conditions with better life styles. Within a limited period, this global and complex situation will need thorough, integrated and local surgery. This book is designed to draw greater attention to the sun and how a solar-climatic vision can influence and improve architectural design and urban planning. It may not have been discovered yet how small our planet is and how big the effect of a simple decision can be, but it is nevertheless important to be reminded of the sun not only as a powerful and perpetual actor in our dynamic atmosphere but also as a basis for figuring out a variety of adaptive solutions that must be identified and followed. In addition to the changes made by architects, clients and builders as well as planners, municipalities and all other persons who make decisions on plans, the role of those who live inside buildings and cities, not as users, but as producers and maintainers, also bear a certain degree of responsibility. Therefore, the optimization of new constructions, the modification of existing buildings and urban fabric should be considered on a global scale in regard to the sun as well as our future needs. The aim should be to improve energy-efficiency, health, comfort and safety in all living spaces, whether indoors or outdoors. In this respect, the analysis of the current situation, forecasting future scenarios and the development of intelligent alternatives are fundamental steps. In terms of energy efficiency, daylight provision and internal comfort, the use of advanced building materials and technologies as well as simulation tools can improve the building envelope and its performance. However, it is important to understand when, where and how they should best be applied to achieve an intelligent form as well as a responsive layout with a high level of performance for other essential aspects, too (e.g. structure, view, operation). Although today many consider “solar architecture” the attaching of solar thermal collectors and PVs to building roofs and facades, this is only one of the complex tasks which should be integrated in the design. In fact, solar architecture incorporates all the complexities of architecture on different scales. Besides, it has to respond accurately to certain issues resulting from the currently low price of other energy sources in many locations. In addition to the reduction of payments, other valuable improvements associated with solar-climatic considerations in the design should be clarified and compared. During the design process, an optimization (i.e. re-arrangement, re-orientation, re-sizing) of different elements, namely solar surfaces (i.e. transparent/opaque surfaces, shading/reflecting devices, collectors), building volumes and trees, does not necessarily increase the construction costs but can help identify deficient or over-designed elements. Alongside improving the energy efficiency aspects of individual buildings, a solar-climatic vision in planning can lead to other qualities for the benefit of small and large-scale living spaces, whether indoors or outdoors. Around the world, we must be prepared for more shocking news and annual records if many continue to build buildings, whether cheap or expensive, with little attention to the sun. In neighborhoods on an urban scale, the insufficient analysis and inaccurate decisions regarding building volumes and orientation can affect the potentials and performance of both internal and external spaces in terms of energy production, energy demand, daylight, health, comfort and safety for long periods of time. This book includes a decade of SOLARCHVISION practices on how architectural design and urban planning can be adapted by the constant path and variable effects of the sun in each location. Sharing such a vision can help architects, urban planners and clients to make more accurate decisions concerning energy and climate-related matters. After presenting fundamental diagrams in different cities around the world (e.g. the sun paths, solar radiation and temperature models), the role of an intelligent design for the building skin is described and analyzed in terms of finding a good relation between outside and inside as well as the direct and indirect collection of solar energy on different building surfaces. This research can bring about new appearances and structures for the creation of smart buildings and responsive cities.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Site-specific art is artwork created to exist in a certain place. Typically, the artist takes the location into account while planning and creating the artwork. The actual term was promoted and refined by Californian artist Robert Irwin, but it was actually first used in the mid-1970s by young sculptors, such as Lloyd Hamrol and Athena Tacha, who had started executing public commissions for large urban sites (see Peter Frank, Site Sculpture , Art News, Oct. 1975). Site specific environmental art was first described as a movement by architectural critic Catherine Howett ( New Directions in Environmental Art, Landscape Architecture, Jan. 1977) and art critic Lucy Lippard ( Art Outdoors, In and Out of the Public Domain, Studio International, March-April 1977).

Despite extraordinary advances in digital and communication technology over recent years, we know very little about the way these complex systems affect everyday work and interaction. This book seeks to explore these issues through a series of video-based field studies that look at the introduction of basic information systems in general medical practice, news production, the control rooms of the London Underground and computer aided design in architectural practice. It focuses in particular on social interaction and the way video-based field studies can inform the design, development and implementation of new technology.
